San Martinho Beach Club
We woke up early today, despite planning a lie in. I love it when I naturally wake up early. It makes the day lovely and long. We went for a delicious breakfast of pastries, fruit, muesli, yoghurt, seeds and dried fruit, then packed up our stuff ready to move onto the tiny beach village of Bilene.
Our driver today was Philemon. It was a nearly 3 hour drive up the coast headed North, to warmer weather.
Our apartment is right on the beach front of a beautiful lagoon with softly lapping waters and golden sands. There are very few people here. The apartment is lovely and spacious. We are completely self catered. There is no restaurant on site, but there is a BBQ and full kitchen.
We walked about 25 minutes into the village hoping for a supermarket, but it really is a village. We found some caught this morning prawns for sale on the side of the road. We got some market stall veg and homemade piri piri sauce, and 2 mini baguette rolls. Oh, and some bread and jam for breakfast. We were definitely the only tourists/Caucasians in the village. This is the most remote place we've ever stayed by far. In 20 years it will be buzzing, but for now it's quiet and peaceful.
We peeled the prawns and marinaded them in the piri piri after having an evening stroll along the beach front to check out the pool, games room and mini golf course.
The piri piri sauce turned out to be hotter than hell. I ate half my sandwich and then started getting palpitations and my eyes were streaming. Maybe won't be having that again! The roasted veg was nice though!
It gets dark quite early here, and fairly chilly too, so we huddled up in our apartment with a hot chocolate and watched a really awful movie called Cliffhanger starring Sylvester Stallone!
I like the sound of your beach apartment. Maybe have to get a taxi to pick up supplies?
