Hlane day 3
Today, we stood 10 feet from a white rhinos, with nothing between us but the red dirt and some tracks left by impala! It was a very curious rhino too, not sure about us at all. It pretended to charge us a couple of times just to see what we were made of. Lucky was our guide again and he had a stick to make noise and swoosh bushes every time the female got curious enough to come closer.
It actually didn't take long to find two rhino on our rhino trek this morning. It was us and two German's, who had very keen eyes. They were the ones who spotted the rhino in the first place. Then we parked up and had to walk single file towards the pair. We spread out into a curve to take pictures, then as she cane wandering closer to us, ears swiveling like crazy, we had to crouch on the ground
We also saw impala males in camp, water bucks, bushel starlings, hammer kop, bushel couchrl, crested barbry,
What an exciting morning! Our driver Jubbly, picked us up at 10am and we left the wonderful Swaziland behind for a 3 hour drive over the border to Mozambique. We drove for ages once we were over the border, just through bushland. We saw a person every now and then, but there were no dwellings in sight, so where they came from, or were heading, I have no idea! We eventually got to the outskirts of Maputo, the capital city. Buildings started with brick huts and moved up to tower blocks, then very big houses in the style of 1950s architecture. We are staying in the Radisson Blu, right on the beach, with a beautiful view over the water.
We checked in, then wandered down the road to a seafront restaurant called Sagres, for fresh tuna rolls and piri piri sauce. Mozambique has a big Portuguese influence, so I'm really looking forward to the food! We headed back to the hotel for a nap/various sport watching. I was forced to watch the cricket and tennis simultaneously, and also the f1, but I didn't mind that nearly as much.
We finally went for dinner at the same place we had lunch. We had garlic bread (which turned out to be a whole baguette) and olives, followed by tuna, prawn, squid and veg kebabs all washed down with a nice red sangria. Delicious!
We wondered if Matt would be able to watch any sport this weekend! We've been inundated with it. Have a lovely relaxing time by the beach.
