Shanghai World Financial Centre, Hangpu River Boat Trip and Afternoon Tea

Friday and Saturday were very nice days, winding down from our busy Beijing trip.  On Friday, we started the day by going up to the observation deck (100th floor) of the bottle opener building, aka the Shanghai World Financial Centre.  There is a glass floor, which I was not a fan of at all!  I'm not scared of heights, but for some reason a glass floor just messes with my head. Matt, who IS scared of heights, is absolutely fine if he is completely enclosed, so he was OK.  I was very pale.  It was a bit hazy, but we still got a good view anyway.  We even popped down to the 94th floor for a sneaky hot chocolate.

The pointy tower that you can see in the photos is the Jinmao tower, where we had drinks last week on the 87th floor.  It's the 12th tallest building in the world, but looks tiny from the SWFC!

We had 'posh' dumplings for lunch in Din Tai Fung.  This is another chain of dumpling restaurants, but is much posher than Yangs, our preferred dumpling eatery, where you can get dinner for £4.

We had a lovely relaxed stroll in the sunshine down the Bund, and then hopped on an hour long boat ride down the Hangpu river.  Matt didn't end up seeing any of it, because there was a stall that he spent most of his time at.  The man running it was deaf and dumb, and was carving names onto keyrings with a power tool.  It was very cool to watch.  We got keyrings with our names on, and the cats names on black and white cats, for the spare house keys, aka the cat sitter keys.

The cruise was lovely and relaxing, and gave us interesting views of the towers and bund.  We had dinner at a fabulous Italian restaurant on the Bund, called Goodfellas.  Seriously delicious food.  Then we had a look at the skyline at night.  It looks completely different to during the day, and is stunning!

Yesterday, we had a Chinese twist on afternoon tea at the Hyatt hotel on the Bund.  The tea was lovely - Jasmine tea, and the cakes and fruit were delicious!  There was coconut cream pudding and mango puff pastry sweets, purple sweet potato cake and so many other delicious things.  Yum!

We had a few hours rest at home with the cats, before heading out, back to the Shanghai Beer Factory for dinner and a few drinks.  Our friend Adam came with us too.  A very pleasant last night.

This morning, Mary left at 7.30am with Matt to get to the airport for her 11am flight.  It was so lovely to have Mary here, and the flat seems very quiet now.
Today, Matt and I are having a chilled day doing not much of anything at all.
